Michael C. Hiles is the Vice President for Research and Clinical Affairs at Cook Biotech Incorporated, a medical device firm specializing in the development of extracellular matrix (ECM) technologies for implantable and topical medical devices. Mike also holds an appointment as Adjunct Professor of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Prior to moving to Cook Biotech, Mike investigated these same materials as an Associate Research Scholar in the Hillenbrand Biomedical Engineering Center at Purdue. Before that, he completed his graduate education through the same Biomedical Center and worked under a fellowship with Eli Lilly on the vascular applications of ECM. Dr. Hiles received his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue and his Ph.D. in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology from the Veterinary Medical School at Purdue. He has published articles on catheter-based medical instrumentation, pharmacological intervention in acute animal disease, composition and structure of biomaterials, and biomechanics of soft tissues. Mike is an inventor on more than 30 issued or pending patents, serves in an advisory capacity to several industry and academic groups, and guest lectures at three academic institutions.
